Four best friends who are all Chinese-born gather together this New Year’s Eve in Vancouver. Some unexpected dramas happen during the dinner preparation.
Background
In the age of epidemics, distance is an invisible wall separating these International students from their beloved relatives. The New Year means a time of family reunion for the Chinese.
This is the most valuable and happiest time of the entire year. However, for the protagonists, homesickness is extreme on this day. They are realizing that friendship seems to be another treasure…
Define
We had some hard time to decide on the line art we should use. We had this pencil-like style for the beginning, but the texture brush is not the perfect choice for the coloring because there were too many gaps in the texture. Then we decided to use this very thin line for the animation and it works with the line-less layout we have.
Ideate
We want to make a story as a slide of life. I and my co-director are both Chinese international students and we haven't celebrated the Spring Festival in many years. Then we created characters based on us and gave them a happy ending for the story.
